According to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, increasing numbers of doctors are refusing to carry out abortions on ethical grounds.
‘We welcome this news,’ said Julia Millington of the ProLife Alliance. ‘We have been hearing for some time now that young doctors, in particular, do not want to work in this field. Those choosing to go into medicine presumably do so because they want to cure sickness and disease not end the lives of innocent human beings.
‘Public and Parliamentary opinion on the abortion issue has shifted in recent years and today’s news is further evidence that the law must be reviewed.
‘The very liberal application of the law means that over 200,000 abortions are performed annually in England, Wales and Scotland. According to recent polls there is overwhelming public support for ways to be found of reducing this number. How long can the Government continue to ignore demands that the law be reviewed?’
